Introduction

The Apple LC III is a low-cost desktop computer from Apple Computer inc. It was released in 1993 and was the 3rd (after the LC and the LC II) in Apples original line of affordable computers. The LC III is aimed at the education market with a very similar version being released to the public slightly later - the Performa 450. The LC III was intended to be a more reasonably priced alternative to the Apple II however the specs were not comparable in the lowest end model specifically in the case of the graphics card. There were problems after the initial release because programs written for the Apple II were designed to function on a screen of resolution 640 x 480 but the entry level model of the LC II was not capable of supporting such video resolutions. This could be corrected through the purchse of extra video memory (which is upgradable) however this was obviously not the optimal solution. Regardless of the initial problems the LC III became very popular.
